It was our 4th Syawal, city people like us opt for window shopping and movie rather than jalan-jalan beraya because either everyone working as it was weekday, or people are still enjoying their 1st week of Syawal at kampung .Me as the Bollywood Guru is indeed very proud as this was my student; Pza’s first Hindi movie in the cinema. With less than a week time to study for final exam, we set the date on the midnight a day before as we can’t take any more cases to stuff inside our brain. I know Pza will jump and join me as this is Shahid’s movie plus she will be ‘meeting’ him after a long time.
With the knowledge on my side that this film’s essence pretty much enthused from a truly hardcore Punjabi background from the dialogue, to the songs to the portray of lifestyle of each characters I’ve warned Pza this might not be the typical Hindi movies that she usual watched. What the 1st time director tried to convey the audience is what Yashraj Films or Adi planted in each of their films which is the importance of family institution as well as the sport spirit which I seriously think is great. When it comes to them I can be a bit bias as they are no doubt the best filmmaker from Hindi film fraternity.
The editing, direction and screenplay was made accurately to what its targeted to be in the first place for this type of light movie which is simple, straight to the point and not elongated for no reason. This movie absolutely was inspired from ‘She’s the man’ by Amanda Bynes but nonetheless it was mould to be in its own version with the desi touch. This was 1st venture between Rani and Shahid , from the chemistry between both of them we hope this would not be the last, there the critics make such a hungama about the age gap but sincerely talking the 4 years gap didn’t really apparent. There weren’t any serious acting needed for each role so they just portraying a normal of how Punjabi ka puttar is in real life which is loud, big herated and funny. Roles of Rohan Singh(Shahid) and Veera/Veer Pratap Singh(Rani) carry the film burden till the end with the help of Anupam Kher as Rohan’s father who insist his son help him in getting back the pride of Punjab from Pakistan in a way of winning the annual cricket game competition as well Rakhi Sawant who was working with Rani in the moving-trailer.
The songs were composed with the thought of bhangra in mind, that is why they are all free spirited and very fast track and catchy. They are not really my choice except for the title track as well as the romantic song; Ishq hai rab hai[so sweet!]. Overall its a feel good movie, makes we want to try harder to get what we want inspite what others might say or do in order to stop us from succeed.
